Kindergarten Orientation

Recommended Posts

Today was Kindergarten orientation. I was extremely nervous about it. All of the kids and their parents met at the school and the kids went with their teachers for about a half an hour. Then, we all took a bus ride. I know that it was only 1/2 hour, but it was GREAT! We have come so far since our first episode. There were kids there crying, but not Taylor! I couldn't believe it. She ran right up to her teacher (who she has met before since we had arranged a visit prior to orientation) and did not look back. I almost lost it. I had to hold back my tears. The teacher was impressed because apparently Taylor participated a lot.

School starts on Monday and she is so excited and not even a little bit nervous. I am. I am not nervous for her to go because I know she will do great. I am nervous for her to get sick. Sigh. I know that we all feel the same way. I am a little comforted by the fact that the school does have experience with PANDAS as there is one other child there that was in the height of it last year.

Wow! So are so lucky that another child/parent has already broken down some of the barriers at the school with Pandas and what a great resource for the two you to be able to relate and "get it"

I can completely relate to being scared of them getting sick again. I was in tears the first day for that exact reason--the kids did fine--but I was a mess! :D

Congrats on making it through orientation! Sounds like Taylor will do just great (and I cried too when my girls walked off down the hall on their first days of school!). Staying healthy, that is the scary part. Good luck and here's to a strep and flu free year!

My son had his first day of kindergarten today. He got is shoes on before asking, wanted to leave for the stop early, got on the bus without any fuss, and ended up having a really good day. We spent the evening playing school as he re-enacted the day. How can this be the same boy I had a few months ago? I am just going to enjoy every smile and cherish seeing him happy. These kids are amazing.

Today was day 7 of first grade for us and the nurse called me this morning to inform me that a boy they sent home sick yesterday from my son's class has been diagnosed with strep. Now all I can do is wait and see what happens. Last year we managed to make it all the way until late March before he had one of his PANDAS outbreaks.
