The MRI results show nothing which shouldn't surprise me since I have heard from others that their results were negative as well. However, I'm very disappointed which sounds horrible but I was hoping they would see the inflammation. The Rheum. is no longer on board with us and told us to follow up in a year and that if she has any more symptoms to call a psychatrist. My question for him is why is she responding so well to abx??? She doesn't need a psychatrist.

We are scheduled for a phone consultation with Dr. K. on Wednesday so hopefully he will be on board with us.

Dear ShaesMom,

That is a GOOD question!!

Why IS she responding so well to abx?!?

Good for you for asking.

We have asked about 5 doctors that same question over the past year--regarding our daughter's dramatic OCD/facial tic symptom decline. There is no doubt in our case there was some issue of inflammation which was holding her captive, and somehow antibiotics did the trick and continue to. That has been our experience.

It took time, but we saw weekly progress once we went back to full-strength antibiotics.

I know that prophylactic abx were used by Swedo et al., in order to stave off strep reinfections (or that was what I understood the reason to be.) For that reason we were actually surprised that there was such a dramatic recovery when continuing full antibiotics for a number of months.

However, I am convinced that full strength abx, long term, was key.

ps--Two MRIs did not show anything either, but these were standard MRIs, not research-strength.

Good for you and keep askig! Let us know if you ever get an answer--:)
