Detecting strep

I need advice. My son had a fever at 11:30pm last night. In the morning, he felt fine and was in a good mood. He went to speech and came back in a funk. The fever was back. His behavior isn't off right now. I don't want to take him for a strep test just because of a fever. He's petrified of strep tests. He's had so many. But I am freaking out a little.

 

So my question is would a fever become before or after behavior changes if it was strep?Obviously if he has one major setback in behavior, I will take him to the dr.
