_Kim_ Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Hello First I want to say. Sorry for my bad english writing. I am from Holland. And I can read english. And I can talk itt. But writing is somehow diffecult. I think I make a lot of spelling mistakes My son from 4 years old has been diagnosted pandas. But here in Holland there is only one site with information. And I cant find any parents who's child has pandas too. That's why I try to read your discussions. My son did have tics. It looks if he had spasme. Every 5 seconds his face went funny. (his tong get out, his head went down, en his eyes rolled funny) His fingers constantly moved. He tolded me that itt feld like they were itching. And he had the feeling that there was something in his eyes that wouldn't come out. He was constantly sticking his fingers in his eyes. For a month ago. He has been in hospital for 5 days. They gave him gammaglobulinus. And two days after he was back home the tics get less. And they stil are gone ( maybe once a day I see him tic, but thats nothing if you know it was 10 times every minute) But I dont know what gammaglobulinus means in englisch. Is it the same word? Did one off your childern have this medication? Its not an antibiotic. And I was also wondering. You all talk about steroids burst. And I can really not figure out what you are all talking about. Can someone explain that in simple words? And I have another question. My son only did have tics. But iff he gets it back again. Is itt posible he get ocd? Or something else? Or do you kids always have the same thing when they get strep. I hope I wright itt all good. Kim from Holland

Kim from Holland The steroid burst is nothing more than 5 days of prednisone to see if the child will respond well to that - it's supposed to decrease brain inflammation. It's nothing more than a test. It only works for as long as they take it - then it goes back to how it was before. Long term steroids are not good so it is not a matter of trying to see if steroids will work as a treatment, it is only to see if there is inflammation that can be decreased temporarily and get good results. If that's the case, then usually they will respond well to IVIG (which is probably what your son had when you say gammaglobulins). Did he have it as an IV over several hours? My daughter had it in October. The tics went away and never came back. But she did have trouble with OCD and that did come back. I think IVIG works for a while, but you need to repeat it in most cases. Pat
_Kim_ Posted April 9, 2009 Author Report Posted April 9, 2009 Hi It makes all a lot more sense now. I googled IVIG and its the same my son had. pmoreno I dont what you mean by IV. He was for 5 days in hospitol. And every day it took about 5 ours. Do you mean infuse? (needle in his arm that stayed there for 5 days) Thanks for explaining.
