Guest duncan
My daughter who is now 10 has been showing various tics for the last 4-5 years in varying degrees of intensity. She hasnt got ADHD, or OCD symptoms either. It started with eye blinking and is currently sticking her tongue out and grunting incessantly. This has been the worst i have seen. The neurologist i took her to in Dublin two years ago said can do nothing but hope it goes away. She is very distressed and scared and teacher wants to know what i am going to do over summer! I have had the RAST bloods done and she is showing an allergy to pollen, mold, cats/dogs and grasses, nothing we hadnt guessed already as we live in the country surrounded by all these things. Could these really be the cause of all these tics (we lived here long before the tics started) I am happy to bring her to somebody else but i dont know where to go or what to ask for. I have been keeping a diary since April and certainly excitement, stress, anxiety and fatigue all appear to exacerbate the tics but is this not life,? i cannot keep her in a bubble. Are there other blood tests i should have asked for , my local doctor is not partic interested and i only received the test results over the phone!! Should i get a hair test done? Anybody have any ideas please
lurker
Duncan, Have you checked for food allergies? Do you have any relatives who are Celiac (allergic to wheat)? That was the first thing I thought of because I am making the assumption that you are Irish. Apparently, your People have a genetic vulnerability to Celiac disease. You should search Caryn's posts. Her very Irish son has several of the Celiac genes and she is doing a great job of controlling his symptoms (tics) by removing wheat from his diet. You might want to try a gluten-free diet to see if she responds. I won't lie -- it isn't easy. And it can take months to see results. Has she ever shown any gastro-intestinal symptoms? (It is not necessary to have gastro issues to be Celiac, although it is common.) Tami

I have had her checked for coeliac and she was negative. I have brought her to a kinesiologist in the past two weeks. My sister (a doc) thinks i am stupid, and just avoid all stress/excitement etc!. i have started her on B6, calcium, echinacea, folate and copper (all of which showed up through this muscle testing) I have also removed dairy and wheat from her diet as instructed. I havent been told to avoid gluten though so i am still using oats and spelt. Does anyone know why wheat might be an issue and not gluten.? She seemed to be doing ok for the first week, but this week has been very bad in all tics. The hay is being cut all around us and i know from blood tests that she has a strong allergy to pollen. Has anyone else been to a kinesiologist and have they been useful in identifying the sensitivities or am i wasting my time (like my sister believes)
