bmom Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Well, I feel like I keep chasing away tics only to have them change or return. Sorry for the down note, but I am frustrated. My son was doing an ear popping mouth opening tic which comes and goes. He is now doing an eye blinking tic. I started him on Nasonex because I thought the ear problem was allergy related now he is blinking so I have stopped it. Do you think the Nasonex would cause the blinking? Is taurine a good one to try for blinking?
myrose Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 We too have had this increase and especially so with the eyes! I am tracing it so far to the pool even though we have a salt chlorinator. But still not sure if thats it. I just know that something is going on here. She also feels warm all the time but never a temp??? Also regarding the Nasonex...my daughter was also using that and we stopped right before this increase. Also weird. But I read somewheres that steroids are a NO NO for tics???? I am so confused.
peglem Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 My daughter was doing the jaw popping thing too- don't know if it was a tic or just congested ears. She was prescribed nasonex for it also, and though she didn't start eye blinking...she began banging her head more severely(actually crashing her knee into her face, which may also be a tic) and both eye sockets bruised all the way around. The doctor and pharmacist said the Nasonex could not have caused this...but its never happened before or after. I'm never using it again.
samsmom Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Just wanted to say that Sam has a lot of eye tics going on right now - started around February, pretty much when the tree pollen started. That's also when he started looking at lights more (mentioned this on another post). We live in the Pacific Northwest so don't have a pool - not really a need for one here When his tics first started (3 years ago when he was 4) there was nothing going on with his eyes - it's only started the last couple of years, and generally in the spring/summer, so I'm sure that it's allergy related. Have never seen it in the fall/winter months. I just got him back on the Xlear nasal spray (have never used Nasonex), and I will keep giving him that twice a day for the next couple of months. We first started using that last year - can't say that it's helped with the eye tics, but it definitely doesn't make him any worse, and at least I feel like I'm doing something to help him with his stuffy nose at this time of year. Of course I'll never know if he might have been even worse without it or not.. We also just restarted desensitizing sublingual drops for his pollen allergies and we also give him Moducare which is supposed to help with 'balancing' the immune system. Sue
