PANDAS - Diet Elimination

Recommended Posts

Good Morning;

I am mom to 8 yr old son who developed PANDAS after a strep infection in July of 2006. Colin responded great to antibiotics after I finally got Dr's to listen and test him. Since then we battled meds - prozac and adhd meds. It seems like his PANDAS is in full attack mode right now. Tics popping up all over the place, depressed, irrational fears, inability to write and focus. I was reading "Is this my child" and I was amazed at what I was reading especially the section on TICS.

I want to "adjust" my already picky eaters diet. I think I can figure out lunch and dinner but I am lost on breakfast.

I know there is no - Wheat, milk, dairy, eggs, preservatives, red & yellow colour, lunch meats, breads, baked goods, oatmeal, tofu and soybeans.

What does that leave for breakfast?

Can anyone give me some Meal ideas?

I am trying right now to remove him from Prozac, and we are trying to new add med that I think is working though would like to give it another week. I am also trying to have his titers checked because his pupils during the day are dilated.

His behavior is just out of sorts right now.

I also give him Flintstone vitamins but I am told there are better vitamins. Can someone tell me what they are and where I would get them.

Also any tips/tricks/ideas you have that would benefit him with behavior, tics I would really appreciate the help.

I feel lost right now.

Thank-You

Hi LG,

My husband cuts a steak in strips and sautes peppers and onions and makes homefries as a side, our son then picks a piece of fruit from the fruit bowl. Could do this with chicken too.

I'll cook up organic hamburger with small cubes of potatoes, you could make this with rice too.

If he eats half of a 6oz salmon the night before, I heat up the leftover salmon, and he'll eat cantaloupe or honeydew.

My son can't have beans, but if your son can, you could make him something with beans.

Good luck,

C.P.

Are all grains out? What about rice pudding made with rice milk with raisins and cinnamon (warm). You can make a hot cereal, much like oatmeal, out of just about any grain. Cornmeal mush with a little butter and maple syrup is heavenly. Hot millet cereal is good; add organic sugar (ie. dehydrated cane juice) and a splash of rice milk or almond milk. For cold cereal, rice puffs (not Rice Krispies because of the BHT) with rice or almond milk. Almond milkshake: check out a recipe for almond milk (basically skinned almonds blended with water), and add a frozen banana and a dash of nutmeg. Smoothies are a favourite here, with a juice, a banana, and a handful of frozen berries. Potato latkes with apple sauce would be great, too. Hope this gives you a few ideas.

P.S. If you haven't tried many of the alternative milks, my best advice is to try different brands until you find one you like. They all taste quite different. Out of any alternative milk, homemade almond milk is absolutely the best-tasting, but kind of expensive to keep buying all those almonds. :)
