@fgter please keep us posted on your child! I hope you are seeing rays of hope with all your efforts!

I would love to know more about your mold journey. Has any been found in your home? What supplements were recommended for detox? I asked my functional ped about easy detox ideas (but haven’t confirmed it’s needed yet with a mycotoxin)… she mentioned sauna, castor packs, epsom baths. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for sharing your experience @fgter, this is truly valuable! My 6 years old daughter is going through tourette and I will start the consultation with Dr Gibson tomr, It’s a incredible challenging journey, but here’s to cheering for myself and all the incredible moms out there fighting for their kids dealing with tics!

Hi @lionemail16

Sorry to hear that your kid has to go through this. We had intense tics for my kid last year and with changes to her diet and adding supplements made a big difference for her.

Its a challenging journey but you will get there, Stay strong.

Hello Everyone,

Update (5/1/2025)

  • Protocol still in progress and we're half way.
  • Interesting thing we observed,Last 4 months has been mostly normal (minor tics once in few days) but not intense. But since April beginning, we observed she getting tics more often. This is exactly what happened last year when she was tic free during (Jan-May) time frame and her tics got intense during may/june/july. Not sure if this has got something to do with things that come along during spring/summer
  • We're havent spoke to an environmental physician yet and we're planning to meet Michael Bauerschmidt, MD
  • Any suggestions on good environmental physicians you have been to? would really appreciate it.
  • Also hearing great thing about GAPS diet and how it reversed many chronic issues. Did anyone have experience on it?

This is exactly what we are dealing with starting March ( spring season ). But ours is more of allergies symptoms  accompanied my mild tics! We are also falling sick again and again since March !

Also last year her tics got noticeable around the same time !

According to our doc this could be mast cell activation due to histamine intolerance ! Root cause - Mold toxicity !

Do you have any allergy symptoms ? Or just tics ?

We were asked to eliminate few high histamine food and introduce Quercitin and DAO enzymes !

We have many food intolerances along with mycotoxins in the body. My kid didnt test positive for any environmental allergies but we were able to clearly observe her tics increasing during spring/summer.

what histamine foods are you avoiding?

Hey we have been asked to avoid fermented foods , spinach ( we were consuming a lot ) and avoid tomatoes !!Also we are given Quercitin ( natural antihistamine) and DAO enzymes to digest if ate high histamines !

Histamine intolerance is another symptom of mold toxicity has nothing to do with environmental allergies ! But yes when your histamine bucket is full due to food + environmental triggers in spring season you get reaction/symptoms !!

Hello Everyone,

Update (1/6/2026)

  • After about 8 months tic-free (very mild neck tics now and then that used to disappear after chiropractor adjustments) a new flare began on 12/9/2025 after we started a new protocol to support her MTHFR issue (including methylfolate and B12).
  • The first 5 days of the protocol went well when methylfolate and B12 were given separately. On day 6, when they were given together, she experienced poor sleep that night followed by eye rubbing/squinting. We stopped both supplementation on the next day.
  • We're planning to test her for STREP as well. She's currently having dental cavities that needs addressing too. Not sure if these two can trigger her current symptoms.
  • Next day, it transitioned to throat irritation/infection with nasal drip, and another functional dr noted that her throat was inflamed. He also pointed out that the Methylfolate/B12 supplementation dosage given was very high for a 7 year old and there might be a chance that could have triggered it.
  • Symptoms started as throat clearing/grunting/humming and later shifted to intermittent neck and shoulder tics.
  • The pattern fluctuates, is mild both at home and school but the question remains on what would have triggered it. Sleep remains normal.
  • Its been one month and the tics didn't go away still.

Does any one has experience with MTHFR and tics?
