Guest
I've been through 2 anbitiotics and still have UTI. I am taking D mannose as well. The interesting thing is : " 1st bacterium klebsiella and may not treat 2nd bacterium strep" Why do I have strep bacteria in my bladder? Has this been the issue since I was 6 years old!?? (I have a long history with strep) Is this more evidence of pandas? I'm so confused and to top it off the cipro is causing a lot of retention which is the opposite of what you want. PowPow
So, is this saying that abx they are giving you works against the klebsiella but will not treat the strep? is it Group A Strep? Yes- could certainly be evidence of PANDAS, I think- or more evidence (like you need any more!) of infection-mediated issues at least contributing to your current state. was this culture after you had been off abx for a while? Guest
They have to give me 2 different antibiotics for the bacteria. It is strep B, I'm not sure I understand all this with a group A in the throat and group B in the bladder? I wonder how much infections play a role with my bladder problems. No this culture was right after I did a month of antibiotics, it did not fix the infection and it always has in the past, this is the worst I've ever had. I did a month of cipro and augmentin but I still had symptoms. Culture was done just recently.
SSS
I would ask them to culture the actual bacteria, to see what antibiotics the bacteria is resistant, to get the correct medicine. I read of a young woman who had a terrible time with bladder/ ongoing urine infections/ pain, finally got the bacteria strains cultured (she also had more than 1 strain) and one of them only Vancomycin would treat. I would look for kidney stone within the kidney. Very common to have "septic stone" that keeps causing repeated positive cultures than actual UTI. Has nothing to do with bladder- stone is on kidney that keeps urine colonized with bacteria. I had asymptomatic 13 mm stone. Had Klebsiella growing in urine all the time with no symptoms of bladder infection. Looked for stone--found it--then had Lithotripsy twice--poof--gone. That has been about 7 years ago and I have never had another stone since. Just had one big one. MD may order Ultrasound, Ct scan of KUB xray. This is a good idea. The problem is, within a week of taking any antibiotic I develop: yeast and cdiff infections. Already after 4 days on a small dose of cipro I'm getting terrible diarrhea and yeast infection. This happens with all antibiotics. Something is very wrong with my GI tract. I take 3 different probiotics as well. What kind of specialist would culture the bacteria b/c my urologist isn't doing that? I've been through 2 anbitiotics and still have UTI. I have all the symptoms of UTI though and the antibiotics help tremendously with symptoms while taking them, I just am so sensitive to medication and get horrible side effects from abx. SSS
You could ask the urologist to send it off to a lab- it's not uncommon. I would explain to him/ her your GI symptoms- how you were unable to take the course currently recommended to you. How about Bicillin shots? They are administered in the buttock, by pass the gut. I did them 2-3 times a week for 6 months during Lyme treatment- Not sure how many you would need for ongoing strep.

Thanks all very good suggestions, I think I will follow through with these current abx and if this doesn't work, will have to see specialist to do bacteria sensitivity testing. Are these common uti bacterium? Also, do probiotics help or hurt with uti's?
