Does anyone homeschool? Looking into math curriculums...

I'm pulling my daughter from public school, just Math right now to "test the waters" and get her caught up, and if everything goes good then she'll be completely homeschooled. I know it's very common for TSers to struggle in math; what math curriculums have worked for you? Right now I'm looking strongly at Calvert and Math U See.

I have considered home schooling. Yes, my "math genius" who is now in 6th grade and excelled in math since kindergarten is now struggling and has a C, although she is in gifted and talented. (Too late in the year to switch out.) She has TS and math was the first thing to suffer, then reading concentration/comprehension. I have considered home schooling (but will not tell her that). However, school is working with us and she is on a modified schedule - comes home for study hall and lunch, then goes back. Most days this gives her the break she needs to get through the day but about once a week she can't go back in the pm (like today). Tics are too bad.

We've homeschooled for years, but never really found any math curriculum I was thrilled with. One thing that interests me is "Teaching Textbooks". It's an online math program that has its own built in tutor. My son has done the demos and likes it. I think any kid that likes being on the computer would like it. The only reason I haven't gone ahead and purchased it is all of these darn doc visits, test and med expenses!

 

Along with the demos are placement tests, so you'll know which grade level to start with. They have online Math 3 through pre-calculus. Here is the link: http://teachingtextbooks.com/

 

My son's math skills are poor, so we were never able to use the spiraling methods of math, such as Saxon Math. He needs much more repetition.

My kids both love Life of Fred. It story form and does a good job of making math make sense. But it's one that you would really need to stick with for it to be effective. We have tried Math U See, Horizons, Singapore and Teaching Textbooks. They hated math. My daughter cried many times. Now that we use LOF its their favorite subject! They are 8 and 11.

I don't know if your state offers K-12 virtural online school. In Oklahoma it is offered as a public or priviate school. The public school is free and both of my son's have done very well. They have passed all state testing since they have been enrolled. We have used this system the last 2 years. This last year, the school sent out someone to give the state test to my youngest son due to his medical condition. This school has worked very well with us and they individualize a learning plan for the student. They work with IEPS and 504 plans.
