Need A Gentle Yeast Protocol

Recommended Posts

Have read numerous threads regarding this but asking again regarding a two particular problems. DS12 is on Augmentin and Azith and though he is doing okay I've seen an uptick in hyperactive, impulsive, very goofy behavior. Sometimes for us that used to mean a flare was approaching but I don't think that is what is occurring. I think it's a yeast problem since adding the Augmentin.

We've tried managing his diet, dairy free and trying for gluten free. My problem is that when he is like this he starts to raid other kids lunch boxes at school.

He will drink Kefir (give him some before bed two hours after antibiotics). He uses D lactate free formula probiotic. This is new and perhaps I should change. In the past he's had Diflucan but It's possible it caused a very bad die off reaction.

Am looking for a GENTLE protocol that could help stabilize his gut. Realize that this is very difficult to do with him on antibiotics. Any suggestions? I've been adding garlic and oregano to his food LOL but need to do more - especially since he is stealing food at school!!!

I don't know if this will help - maybe another parent on here has tried it. A week ago I started my son on Candisol and Yeast Away. Both I purchased through Amy Yasko's site, holisticheal.com. I don't know yet if it is making any difference, but we don't have a doctor for him to order tests or prescribe anything, and this is something I knew I could use on my own.

If you can afford the testing, it would probably be better to know exactly what you're dealing with. For my dd, we are working on yeast and clostridia per Organic Acids Test. There may be better tests out there. We had a CSA a while back, and could see from that that she didn't have any good gut bacteria.

Dr. Kurt Woeller said in a webinar that yeast and clostridia bacteria are living in somewhat competition in the digestive tract. "When you lower one, the other one if it is not being treated at the same time, can sometimes get worse." So in addition to the Candisol and Yeast Away, I'm giving my son Culturelle and Saccharomyces Boulardii from Jarrow. I know some parents on here have mentioned their kids don't do well with the Sacch. Boul, but it and Culturelle are used to treat Clostridia if your child has high HPHPA. Due to not having my son tested yet, I'm going ahead and treating him with the Culturelle and Sacch. Boul in addition to the Yeast Away, until we can find a doc to work with for him.

Here's the webinar I referred to:http://www.autismrecoverytreatment.com/autism-treatment-%e2%80%93-clostridia-regression/

Makes sense @searching_for_help. You are right. I better test before jumping in any further. Often fear what we add or try, just ends up making the balance or lack thereof worse. I live in fear of another dreadful flare so I am trying to be very methodical and careful this time around. Thanks for the webinar link and the reminder about Yasko. Think I'll spend the morning refreshing my mind on these things. So much to consider- so many layers!

I know! You are so right about all the "layers"... Exhausting trying to figure it all out. My biggest problem is I know the testing is important to give an idea of what to treat, but there are so many things to test for, and rarely does our insurance pay for it. Ugh...

Hope you can get things back to normal, whatever that is. I'm not sure we've ever had "normal" with either child, but not really sure if there is such a thing as "normal"!

My ds is the one who hasn't been tested yet. My dd HPHPA was 334. The Interpretation on the test said that neuropsych effects are common when values exceed 500 mmol/mol creatinine. But she has several tests that say they are off and the cause can be due to clostridia (not diff.) Too many point to clostridia, so we're treating for that.

Vancomycen hasn't been mentioned by our nurse practitioner. I was going to mention Flagyl at the next appt. But guess I should ask about Vancomycen also?
