Zeo828
I'm 34, male and I have tourettes syndrom. I also have a stutter which I feel coincides with the condition. If my tics are bad my speech seems to be as well. My tics vary, mostly eye twitching, and a stomach tic which severity can vary. I have learned to live with this condition, but lately it is interfering with swallowing food. I can't. Especially when in a crowded restaurant where my tics seem to increase even more..... Especially when the noise level is high and I feel that people are looking at me. I' also have a chemical sensitivities which increase my tics. Heat also makes my tics increase. Sometimes when I interact with dust(I work at a library) I get a slight vocal tic. I also have thoughts I don't want to have, and some times I go through stages where things have to be just right. This varies too. Basically I'm glad I found this website as no one seems to really believe me when I tell them that interactions with certain chemicals make me feel worse. But I'm wondering, does anyone have tics which interfere with swallowing? Also does noise, like a noisy restaurant, or loud tv, or even tvs in general make your tics increase? In a restaurant I tend to need space and have increased tics when it is crowded and noisy, almost like it's too much stimulation. 10 years ago I tried orap and haldol, both medications making me feel anxious, jittery, and giving me the feeling like I could not stand still. While on the drugs I did not sleep and wondered around the house all night. I quickly when off them. Now I only take klonopin as needed, and only when things are real bad. It helps make my tics manageable. Sometimes I feel like my quality of life is low, but I do my best to stay a relaxed as possible and avoid triggers. Thanks.
