Sieze
Hi, I just joined. My doctor says I have OCD, though I myself don't feel its true. I don't wash my hands continuously or anything. The only problem I have is having thoughts, where I don't have any control over the thoughts and they keep coming. Anyway, I'm taking Fluvoxamine 200mg for over a year. I was also taking Aripiprazole 10mg along with it, but today I told my doctor that I'm feeling fine and would like to stop the medicines. What he did is he stopped the Aripiprazole and instead started Blonanserin 2mg. I looked up the Internet and found that it is a drug for schizophrenia. Is there anyone else using Blonanserin? And why did my doc start an anti-schizophrenia drug? Thanks.
Guest
I've been on multiple anti-psychotics for anxiety and depression and ocd and they did not help. Rather, I got really bad side effects, especially next day sedation from them. I just tried one this past week......... With that said, they do tend to help with sleep problems, when all else has failed. I think some of them are FDA approved for depression in conjunction with srri's. Not sure why they think it will help ocd but I guess it's always worth a shot.
PIK
I have had severe OCD and have been prescribed various combinations including antipsychotics (schizophrenia drugs) I think they just use them for calming/anti-anxiety properties with OCD. If you had schizophrenia he would tell you.

When my DS was at his worst, we were prescribed a whole host of antipsychotics (zyprexa, Seroquel, etc.), mostly to give him and us a break from his out-of-control anxiety. I'm not a fan, but I can see why they might be useful in this off-label manner for short periods.
Sieze
I want to stop taking Blonanserin now. I'm taking a 2 mg dose for more than six months now. I searched on the net but I couldn't find anything about whether it has withdrawal symptoms or not. Does anyone know how to get off it?

Notify your doctor and tell him it's not working out. Never stop all together abruptly, always wean down.
