PowPow
If she has RLS, who diagnosed that? Who ordered the ferritin lab? Whoever orders it dhould be able to tell you how to treat it. If not take it to her pediatrician or general practitioner, tell them about the RLS and low ferritin, and see what amount they recommend. I would not even mention the psych stuff in conjunction with this. Deal with one thing at a time. This is a clear cut thing. low ferritin can equal RLS. Treat that and hopefully it will help! nicklemama
The symptoms we've seen relief from is better sleep and less hyperactivity and restlessness during the day. My son was sleeping all over a full sized bed and night waking. It has taken four months of low dose supplementing to raise ferritin levels to just barely within normal levels. It has not affected OCD or irritability.
trintiybella
I found this:: "small intestine causes inflammatory cells to increase production of IL-6. This cytokine, in turn, is known to boost levels of hepcidin, a protein that decreases iron absorption and transport. Bacterial overgrowth in the gut could be causing the problems and natural, anti-parasitic therapy targeting the stomach and small intestine might be the solution. RLS behaves differently from other autoimmune diseases, as this condition will increase during pregnancy. RLS is seen commonly, in patients with Fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel syndrome." DO YOU GET THE PART WHERE THEY SPEAK ABOUT BACTERIA IN THE GUT AND THEN THEY GO ON TO SAY DO ANTI-parasite treatment. Bacteria is not a parasite, right? trintiybella
I found this too. I think it is saying something different than what you described Norcalmom, but very interesting. http://upperroomwellness.com/custom_content/c_158963_restless_leg_syndrome.html
norcalmom
I made a mistake- (read to many articles that I can barely understand) RLS usually has low brain iron stores, (it's some of the others that are the opposite). Here's a really good article on it- the iron effects dopamine, and B-12 and folate ate talked about as well. http://www.thorne.com/altmedrev/.fulltext/12/2/101.pdf Good luck!
