T_Anna Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Ds15 is refusing to take his probiotics. This is a new thing, until two weeks ago he would take anything white in a capsule, now he won't take any capsule. Align looks like abx (white/hard pill). Any reason I shouldn't try to use it as a probiotic? I hate to have him on abx and nothing to help the gut. Besides I heard it can help with bathroom frequency which would definitely be a plus here too. Thanks in advance, T.Anna
ChrissyD Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 It's not very potent but its better than nothing. What about a chewable? Klaire Ther-biotic children's chewables is 25 billion units per tablet.
T_Anna Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks, he won't take chewables, we have some here, as well as powder : / Guess ill pick up some Align.
SSS Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I recently tried Align, here is my take: Not great. It has a lower count of actual probiotic, is only 1 strain, and added non healthy fillers in the capsule. And take it from me, it does not make more frequent bowel movements. Natural Calm (powder mix drink, magnesium citrate) does, and tastes good. If you are desperate to get a good probiotic in him, and if he's on antibiotics, I would be, how about mixing an open capsule of one into a LITTLE bit of lower sugar ice cream, teaspoon of Nutella, or something like that.
T_Anna Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 He is like a detective and generally only drinks water. Maybe I'll scour the store for another probiotic in a real pill form T.Anna DS15
SSS Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Sorry, I guess I momentarily forgot he is 15. My dd was very young when we started bio-med type stuff, before she could swallow pills, and she knew I was masking supplements, it still tasted bad, but she never got sugary stuff any other way, and, I was hard- core- You have to take this stuff, or you don't get X, Y, Z. Wish I had better advice- some of the chewable probiotics made for kids in the cold section at Whole Foods are tasty- colored, Animal Parade, I think... maybe 3 of those?
MomWithOCDSon Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I would head to someplace like Vitamin Shoppe where they have shelf after shelf of probiotics, and in our area, anyway, the staff seems to know their stuff. Tell 'em you need a tablet and not a capsule, and see what they have in stock. I can't think of anything off the bat (ours are capsules), but there's got to be something! Good luck!
Mayzoo Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I did a google search and here a few tablets. They are of varying potency and strains: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-daily-probiotic-digestive-support-tablets/ID=prod6028665-product http://www.puritan.com/buy/categories/probiotic-tablets http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Bounty-Probiotic-Acidophilus-Tablet/dp/B004JO3JTM Good luck.
T_Anna Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks Mayzoo and MomwithOCDSon! I will go to the store tomorrow and look for tablets. Today he had some really good moments. Just wish we had more!! T.Anna DS 15
mama2alex Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Primal Defense by Garden of Life is a tablet. It's dark brown - not sure if that makes a difference. I think we got it at Whole Foods. Our doctor recommended it, so I think it's good quality.
