cdgalusha
DD is on her first round of Antibiotics for recent onset of PANDAS symptoms. Her pediatrician who does not know much about PANDAS gave her Cefdinir- 250mg/ 5ml daily for 10 days. Does anyone know if this is an appropriate dose? She has an upcoming appointment with Psych doctor who has knowledge of PANDAS, but he can't see her until May 29th and won't give me any advice until then. Thanks so much. ChrissyD
If your pediatrician is open to it, share the PANDAS guideline published by Dr. Jenike from Harvard. He recommends using antibiotics for 3-6 weeks initially. Your doctor might be more open-minded to the advice of a fellow physician. Crunchfly
We are a recent onset as well. Ds started antibiotics 2 weeks after symptoms started. In the interest of getting started ASAP, we went with our pediatrician's offer. 10 days of augmentin followed by 1-2 months of amoxicillin. I was hopeful, but skeptical. After some initial herxing, he is about 90-95% back to normal, and we're 4 days into the amoxicillin. I'm hopeful that it can actually be this simple when it is caught this early. pr40
It seems that the rule of thumb is about a month without flareups before you begin to think that the kid is out of the woods and that you should discontinuing abx. cdgalusha
I have seen some of the actual OCD symptoms subside, but the sudden ADHD behavior remains. She has no regard for her behavior at school or at home. It breaks my heart to see her like this. Thanks so much for the advice.
