Spinal Tap for Bacterial Infection?

Has anyone ever looked into or thought about a spinal tap to figure out what type of bacteria is causing their child's suffering?

My son had a spinal tap last year, the opening pressure was high, indicating infection...but none was detected

Because of other medical conditions, a spinal tap is extremely dangerous for my child and would have to be done by a specialist. She has never had one, and we would look into other alternative diagnostic measures for our kiddo.
