Interesting (but VERY long) NYtimes article on allergies

DD does not have allergies but does have food sensitivites, we are using allergy drops which sound similar to what was described in this article. DD is so much better and it is hard to know what is working and if this is helping but thought I would share

the article brings up an interesting possibility for PANDAS/PANS kids. Can they be desensitized to strep etc?

is that what taking prophylactic abx for a long time makes possible?

hmmm. DD never swabbed positive for strep, even being exposed to scarlet fever, prior to 2010 when our Lyme issue started. I thought she was somehow resistant. Then she seemed to get it a lot and has had mildly elevated ASO since we started testing it in March 2012. DD only has antibodies per the titers to 3 of 14 strains.

I think I will bring this article to our next Dr. B appt and ask, that is a good Dr. B question.

As an aside, I got my most unfavorite type of email today, Strep in DD's class :(

T-cell cancer caused by a virus, epigenetics, immunotherapy - all in one article!

My own DD just started sublingual immunotherapy for environmental allergens. Won't know for a year if it's helping, but three drops/day under the tongue sure beats the heck out of hearing her scream over a shot, even when we'd finally worked out way up to only once a month. And I checked with the maker of the sublingual drops - the only ingredient beside water and the allergen is a minute amt. of phenol as a preservative.

I was so impressed with this doctor. Can we clone her?
