Guest
Hi Guys, I've really messed up my diet again. However, this time it is with off limit foods. It all started when my mom came up to visit over the weekend, and I haven't been able to get back on track since then. Tonight, I ended up having snack packages of cheeze nips, chocolate cookies, chocolate chip cookies. Then I went out and got a double cheeseburger, fries, and an oreo mcflurry from McDonalds, and this all was after having supper. Now I'm in the I hate dairy, gluten, etc. mood because I don't feel good with a headache and increased tics. When I was only dairy/gluten/wheat/soy/corn free I was able to handle it because when I did feel like eating a bunch of something it was still free of all these items. However, now that I've tried to go sugar free, it's not working. I end up eating off limit foods like above. Do you guys think I should just stick with dairy/gluten/wheat/soy/corn free for now or should I really push sugar free/low carbs also? Claire
I would get yourself back on track without the sugar-free. Then I would work on finding/baking sugar-free things that you like. Once you have an assortment of satisfying sugar-free things, you can try again. I plan to try to make sugar-free, nothing artificial chocolate chip cookies soon...I will let you know if they turn out. I have done the same thing. With me it must be no sugar at all, and reasonable sweet substitutes, or I fail. By the way, when the time comes to reduce sugar again... I don't know if you exercise, but it helped me with sugar cravings, as supposedly chromium does also. Reducing carbs in general also helps with cravings. Guest
Thanks Claire. That sounds like a great plan. I'll start getting myself back on track that way. I did make sugar free pancakes using stevia and they were really good, but that's only one breakfast item. Carolyn
Guest
Claire, I wanted to let you know that I tried brownies using a flour mixture of quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat, and guar gum. For the other ingredients, I used unsweetened cocoa powder, stevia, coconut oil, vanilla flavoring, and eggs. They taste different from brownies that use dairy, gluten, sugar, etc., but are really good compared to nothing at all. I also finished my batch of Coconut Water Kefir, and it was actually pretty good. I look forward to hearing how your cookies turn out. Claire
Hi Carolyn, Good to hear. I didn't realize that buckwheat was gluten free, though I just double checked and it is. I remember my son showed sensitive to it on his IgG test, so I had crossed it off my buy list. Good to know. My son is going to work on stevia-sweetened sodas. We got mineral water and he will try lemon, orange, peppermint mixes.... I am waiting for my erythritol (not xylitol) chocolate bars to make the cookies (I will chop up the chocolate bars). Erythritol is also a sugar alcohol not from corn, but doesn't upset the stomach. It is only 70% as sweet as sugar though. I plan to make a blackberry pie with stevia (since it does well with fruit...no aftertaste). I use Pamela's wheat-free bread mix and unsalted sweet butter for the crust. I did a pumpkin pie (with xylitol) and it was awesome, really! No stomach aches from it and I ate waaaay too much (over 1/2 the pie in 2 days). I made great cinnamon rolls with the same bread mix and xylitol. Xylitol liquifies like cane sugar, so you get the same effect. I really don't do this very often (or I would gain weight)...just sharing ideas. Oh yes, I plan to go to BBY and get an icecream maker soon (now that my son and I can have milk).
