reactive to band 23 igm and nursing

Recommended Posts

I got bloodwork back today for Lyme. My only reactive band was IgM for band 23. I am so paranoid. I have 2 PANS kids and our PANS doc suspects it in my 19 month old. She had some sort of eye blink tic when she was 7 months old. It has since not came back. She does walk on her tiptoes sometimes. She is currently on a 3 week rx of Augmentin now for sinister infection from our pandas doctor. My concern is that she is still breastfed. what are you thoughts on this while nursing? I am waiting for a call from our LLMD as well. Thanks for any input.

Do not panic!! Understanding and treatment at this age is key if Lyme is an issue for her. Until you know for sure if DD has Lyme please do not over stimulate her immune system with additional vaccines. Please put them on hold no matter what your Dr. says. We did MMR at 18 months and noticed language regression after that point.

Many children with gestational Lyme do not produce antibodies to the bacteria so standard testing is not very helpful. I would highly recommend a Dot Blot via Igenex with antibiotic provocation looking for die-off/antigen match in urine or Advanced Labs Lyme Culture (she'll have to be off antibiotics for one month prior to testing this particular way).

Our now 5 1/2 year old twins have been on antibiotics since 2 1/2 years and treated for Lyme et al since 3 1/2 years of age. We work with an LLMD and Pediatrician that treats Autism biomedically. Most of their spectrum symptoms like tip toe walking, sensory, OCD, rage behavior, rapid eye blinking with fevers, language regression, intestinal issues have resolved with treatment. We are extremely hopeful they both will live perfectly normal lives.

Band 23 is one of those indicative Lyme bands, personally seeing my daughter suffer so much I would stop nursing if I knew I was reactive to that band to minimize any further exposure, and for a child that age I would see Dr J if you are not already . And also you should get treatment , and in any further pregnancies consider taking abx thru the pregnancy. That said not every kid gets it even if the mother has it. It's good advice not to panic and know you have identified a potential problem and will treat it. I recently found out my 3 yo also tests CDC positive with another igm band that is also an indicative Lyme band, after six weeks of abx for a bullseye, it's very upsetting but I am trying to keep calm knowing we are treating it and I am having faith that she will get well. Hang in

Just want to reinforce the calm vibes. Remember knowledge is power in this situation and you can make informed decisions. I agree with the advice on vaccines at this point until you know more. So sorry for the news but glad you have the information to work with.
