EmilyK
So we're adding zithromax and a predinose burst to the Augmentin for DS since he has mycoplasma too. But no lyme or other issues - yay - strep and mycoplasma are plenty! And DH, myself, and younger DS all have mycoplasma too. In fact, DH has the highest labs for it of all of us - really high. I've been telling his sleep doctor that something more than sleep apnea must be going on for him to feel so lousy all the time. And I had our younger DS back to the doctor to check his ears and throat last week - no help, said it was likely viral. What I liked the most with our visit to Dr. B yesterday was him looking at all my allergy and asthma meds and saying his goal was to get me well and off all those meds. I have quite the infectious allergic cycle going on. It's so nice to have a doctor focused on getting well and not just accepting being subpar and used to chronic illness. I've got Avalox, a prednisone burst and lamisil too. I'd love to hear other mycoplasma experiences from families. Both kids and I will be back to Dr. B for thorough updated allergy testing in Dec. I'm so glad for this group recommending him!
beeskneesmommy
DS6 was dx with Strep:PANDAS at age 2.5. In retrospect he began showing symptoms much earlier. We see a team of specialists, among them, Dr. B. We first went to him 7/11 in order to get on stronger abx and look at the allergy angle. DS had had an ongoing sinus infection most of his life and at age 4, Myco jumped on board with the Strep problems when he had his tonsils out and contracted walking pneumonia, presumably during the surgery. In 7/11 Dr. put DS on Azith and Augmentin combo. This changed everything with the addition of having had a T&A. He has gotten progressively better over time and I know it is the Azith d/t past experiences with it prior to seeing Dr. B. We just had IVig to try to eradicate the last lingering symptoms, but many people may not have opted for that given how well he has been. Not 100%, but so much better than when we landed in Dr. B's office during the summer of 2011! He is on track in school, doing well.
landamom
We are in a similar boat ... DD8 has a chronic mycoP infection that we have been treating. We had our first appointment at Dr. Bs office in September. We were also given lab orders to have all of us tested for mycoP and strep to see if we are carriers. Turns out my DH ( who also has a chronic cough) has very high levels of myco at almost 1000 and no strep, and my DD4 has high antibodies for Strep and no MycoP. Still have not seen my labs yet but I expect to have high strep given that I get chronic sinus infections. Our follow up is not for another three weeks, unfortunately, so I don't know how Dr. B will proceed. Best of luck for continued improvement!
