Mayzoo Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Has anyone tried Feverfew in place of ibuprofen for inflamation? Thanks
SSS Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) I looked it up, I didn't know what it was, and saw this- http://nccam.nih.gov/health/feverfew Can be a few side effects (like everything tho, right) but I would love to find a healthy alternative for dd7 from the dye free children's Advil that I confess I rely upon too much- not for fevers, but I tend to use it in hopes of a mood regulator- because I think it works slightly, and sometimes I really need that slightly, up to 2x a day. Not great for the stomach in the long run. I've already done my curcumin/Tumeric bouts with her in an attempt to decrease inflammation- Let us know if feverfew works well! Mayzoo Posted September 21, 2012 Author Report Posted September 21, 2012 This is a good amount of information as well: Feverfew
Hopeny Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 When I had migraine headaches (aura no headache) in my 20's, I felt the Imitrex I was using just made it worse. I also tried Elavil which just made me gain weight, but did make me a bit happy I found something on Feverfew on the American Headache Association at the time, and started using it. I had some episodes while on it, however after 1.5 years I stopped taking it and have only had one or two migraine headaches since. I am curious about using for other applications. I had a very good experience with it and no side effects as i recall, but not sure for children,

I had a very good experience with it and no side effects as i recall, but not sure for children, I have regular headaches, so I take a combination prep every morning and it does help reduce the frequency/severity. According to all the data, feverfew by itself is "safe" for kiddos over 2 years of age.

How do you get her to take the tumeric? Is she swallowing a capsule? I'm not sure I could get DS to swallow more than the Augmentin he already does. He hates anything cooked with tumeric. Always looking for ideas
SSS Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Yes, swallowing capsules, which was life changing, right up there with potty training. Teach your child, you will be surprised- offer a large reward, start small size. I also can get her to take horrid tasting tinctures in an oral syringe. Getting a nasal spray to happen almost did me in.
