DD, 16, "the healthy one", has been on antibiotics for months to clear up Bartonella. Her liver enzymes went sky high, so it was time for a break from antibiotics and give her liver a chance to heal.

We stopped antibiotics on August 9th, her 16th birthday. Whoo hoo!!! Last Thursday, she started in with a cough. By this morning, she was coughing up green mucus clumps. Lovely :( She is also very crabby

!!!!

We took her to the local outpatient clinic, where she tested negative for strep, but they are going to culture the sample and get back to me. Also, she never gagged when the assistant took the swab. Is that a good sample? I was able to get a Z-Pack and a refill, but the dose seems low compared to treatment doses we usually get.

Her IGg titers for Mycoplasma are always high. The PA on the east coast she sees said that she must have been exposed recently. According to Garth Nicholson, PhD., prolonged high titers of IgG for Mycoplasma mean current infection, especially when the body may no longer respond with IgM. Nicholson recommends Erythromycin/Zith/or Biaxin for a prolonged period of time.

Do I call the PA in Dr. B's office and tell them she is sick again? Do I just go with the dose she has been prescribed and see how she responds? Do I ask for longer meds for Mycoplasma?? Our next appt with LLMD is not until October, but could do a phone consult with him....

We are supposed to do a repeat of the liver enzyme panel on Friday.

What would you do????

I would definitely call the LLMD. The average doctor will not know how to treat myco p. Even if it is only positive IgG titers, if the levels are not going down and you have symptoms you may need a specific type of treatment or combo treatment. A regular course of antibiotics will not be enough.
