Those of you who read my rant from last week know what we've been going through. We were trying to get our floor replacement (due to possible mold!) scehduled for this week before A) school starts next week and B) my husband leaves next week for a work assignment through the end of November.

We've gotten the kids pretty ready for school to start up again - my severe PANDAS son is easy, it's his 3rd year in his EELP pre-K with the same teacher, so he's good to go. My daughter got lucky - her kindergarten teacher was AMAZING and got PANDAS right away. She then was told she was cylcing up to 1st grade and could keep her class if she wanted - she didn't opt to keep the whole class, but she did keep my daughter, thinking it would be easier on her and she could help craft her IEP (which we'll be getting in place this school year). Also, there was another gifted child in the class that she wanted to keep with McKinley since she could handle his advanced work load and help him feel less isolated. I thought it was great because then she would have 2 years with my mild PANDAS daughter to prepare for my son to start K the following year (and of course we would be requesting her!!!)

Well, after sending the kids off to the Abuelas yesterday to start tearing apart the whole house in prep for the floor install Thursday - I got a voicemail from McKinley's 1st grade teacher inviting her to the open house on Friday to meet the teacher and see her classroom - only this was NOT her teacher from last year. I was very confused - but figured I'd call her teacher this morning (I have her cell number - did I mention she was AMAZING!)

About an hour after the VM, I got a text from her K teacher, they're not cycling her up now and she's getting another K this year. She told me the new teacher is great, and she's still going to work with the team on McKinley's IEP. But afterwards, I spoke to the other little boy's mom and now they're going to be in different classes - niether of us are happy about it.

So now - I get to spend this morning preparing a packet of PANDAS info for the new teacher! Cause I really needed more stress right now!!!

Yikes!! So sorry to hear that-- it really makes things that much more stressful- especially with the house torn apart! We are doing a long over do bathroom remodel right now that has our house in chaos. I am waiting to see who my DS first grade teacher will be so my stomach is in knots. I have requested a particular teacher but won't find out until this Friday who it is and school starts next Monday. My DS Kinder teacher last year said the one I have chosen is the ONLY one who will work. So I am right there with ya on the stress level. (Oh yeah as I type DS is chewing his shirt off, a sure sign of a flare ahead........) Good luck with everything -- hope it all goes as smoothly as it can!

I'm so sorry that things did not work out with getting that wonderful teacher. Try not to borrow trouble, though--HA! I need to follow my own words of wisdom! I am in knots over another school year beginning.

For your dd, I see two positives. First, her K teacher was amazing, and is planning on communicating with the new teacher--she'll have to in order to be part of the IEP process. Second, having at least one educator on your side on the IEP team can make a HUGE difference. The other folks at the table will be more open-minded with "one of their kind" in your corner.

And, let's not forget that your dd just might get another amazing teacher! :)

Hang in there!

And there'll be one more teacher who knows about this disorder- who will likely come accross other families who need help.

I'm trying to put it into perspective - every teacher I train is possibly one less I'll have to train when her brother comes through the school in another year!

Worst part of the summer...waiting for the teacher assignment. Asked to avoid a particular teacher who is a yeller and anxious herself per reports. Apparently does timed test all year to get ready of the third grade standardized exams.....clearly not a match for my PANDAS daughter. One more week to see if I'll be calling administration if my request was not honored.
