JenniferG Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 My boys are on Prevacid daily for GERD. Reading the benefits of an H2 Blocker. Thought I should consider switching. Has it helped tremendously? And what symptoms does it help?
MomWithOCDSon Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 In our experience, yes, it helps. Many of our kids have too much histamine, another neurotransmitter which is necessary but which, in excess, can increase feelings of anxiety. In my DS, in particular, it seems to accompany "fight or flight" episodes, especially. There have been times when, facing some homework assignment he particularly loathes or would prefer to avoid, he'll literally have a sneezing fit, as though he's "allergic to the homework." His histamine goes into over-production. Consistent, daily use of Pepcid has virtually put an end to the "fight or flight" as well as the eczema break-outs that typically foreshadowed a burst of anxiety. And finally, my son has some reflux; the Pepcid has put an end to that, as well. So for us, it's a "triple threat," no-brainer!

You seem so knowledgable..mind if I shoot another question? . Dr. T has taken all 3 off of abx. He thinks they might have virals issues. I am awaiting a labslip from him. In the meantime, my dd 9, who has been on abx for a few years is now off. She is VERY happy. Most of her symptoms have disappeared except her anxiety. It hasn't gotten worse, but, is just still there. When I say she is happy, it's almost like she is giddy. I'm not sure if this is a normal happy little girl and just haven't seen it in years or it's a strange reaction. Any thoughts?
MomWithOCDSon Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 I PMed you back, JenniferG, but just to put it out there in case anyone else is interested . . . I can think of 2 possibilities: 1) your DD is just feeling good for the first time in a long time, and both you and she have forgotten what a silly, "normal" girl she can be sometimes, and she's reveling in it; or 2) possibly, there might be some yeast overgrowth after her time on antibiotics? Anyone else have some thoughts?

pr40 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 A comment on the giddy: that is one of our dd8 symptoms. We know it is a symptom because she is not happy but giddy.
