My son is having high dose IVIG this friday and Saturday July 13 and 14, 2012

it's our 1st time doing IVIG.

I would love to hear from all of you.. any advice for before and after? How long was recovery time for you all, was your child sick for long? How did the up and downs of it go weeks/months later? Was there much turning back the page with it??

Just anything you think would be helpful for me to know..

thanks.

Hydrate like crazy - give an extra 8 ounces of liquid every 90 min during waking hours beginning today and stopping next Monday. It keeps the headache away. Also, ibuprofen a couple of times daily for a full week after IVIG is recommended.

I agree with the suggestion of lot of fluids and ibuprofen for a few days prior. Also, I would give benadryl the night before. They will give him some prior to the infusion, but I gave it at night for several nights before the infusions. Be patient, it is possible to see results right away, but it may take a couple of months also, so don't panic if you don't see immediate changes. We are one year post IVIG and my daughter is doing so much better. We have done a few other things also but the cumulative effect has been amazing. This time last year, I never would have believed it. Best of luck!
