MashedTaters Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 So Ds was diagnosed PANDAS two weeks ago wednesday. He's been on keflex since, too. While he's mostly doing awesome, i'm starting to notice some random talking that i know is pandas associated, but i don't know what to expect while being on keflex. He's 6, so i'm sure he doesn't know what it means when he says stuff like 'i don't want to be alive anymore' 'i want to burn up' said with a flat affect. It's not out of the norm for him to say this, but it is in the fact that he's not screaming it while being mad (he was heavily medicated for 'bipolar' which we know he's not now.) He's overall way happier, and totally able to function, and act correctly! He's been infection free since 5/15.
smartyjones Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 when my ds was first diagnosed, he was 4.5. he first went on 10 days of zith that was terrible for him. we switched ped and the new one put him on 30 days of keflex. he was 100% back to normal in about 3 days. he continued on the keflex for the 30 days and was great for about another 30 days and then he began to backslide. i was devastated. i thought he had been cured! i was stunned and unsure what to do -- this was 3.5 years ago - pandas info much less and i didn't even know about this forum. we put him back on the keflex -- although it wasn't as strong a dose -- he saw some gains but not the dramatic differenece from before. i would say use your time on the abx now to get plans A, B and C in place. maybe you'll never have to use them - which would be great -- but you'll have some plans in line in case you do. good luck!
