My 3 year old dd has been on a high dose of Augmentin for the past 7 months. She responded really well at first and had several "good" months but the past couple of months have been filled with ups and downs. Her doctor has recommended switching her to Zith. I am so nervous to make the change! Does anyone else have advice on treating a little one and what dosages of abx you used?

My son was 2 at dx and it seems like we were in a 7-9 month abx stint as well. We started on azith for about 8 months before it stopped working, then were on cefdinir for 9-10, and now have been using augmentin since november. We had to add rifampin the last time around cause i thi k we're losing augmentin too.

As for treating the young ones - we've been at this over 2 years, and the things I have sworn by arw these:

-Motrin. Motrin. Motrin. It helps the inflammation and is our best friend!!!

-Behavior therapy - ealry on it was more about training us to deal with the OCD, but it has made a big difference

- Consistency - i know its hard but we had to try to be fair to our other child too. But that being said...be definitely choose our battles!

- Sensory swing- they're used for autostic children, its like a lycra hammock that hangs from the ceiling. We got it for our little guy when he was 3 (someone on the forums recommended it) and it was a GODSEND!!! I only wish we had gotten it sooner.

I think the hardest part of a really young guy with PANDAS is all of the second guessing going on. It happens with all of our kids...but I feel like the younger ones have a harder time shaking the stigma that its only a "phase"

Sorry I dont remember the azith dose...it was his first abx 2 yrs ago. I'll try to rmember to look it up when i get back to work.

As far as motrin, we used to just give it as needed, when things were bad. But earlier this year our pedi recommended daily dosing - if he could handle it - based on some obscure paper he read. Dr. M agreed, so now we dose him every morning, and then again in the afternoon - but only 2x per day, about 6-8 hrs apart. Our doc sais the long term use should be ok as long as we're not exceeding the maximum daily dosage.
