sosudden Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Question about antibiotics: I read on the forum that people just increase the antibiotic when there is a flare in symptoms or child has been around strep, etc. My question is how are you able to do this? Do you have doctor that you can just call and ask for more antibiotics? My daughter received IVIg in february and the Augmentin that was prescribed had to be changed to Zithromax 2 weeks ago. So she is down to 9 pills and I can not get this doctor to answer me about refills!! Every time I go to her general pediatrician it's somewhat of a struggle to get him to prescribe antibiotics (although he eventually will). He just doesn't understand why the IVIg doctor is not prescribing... does that make sense? i just am getting so nervous that she will run out before someone refills this for her!
ptcgirl Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Most doctor want the diagnosing doctor to do the prescribing. I think legally it is protective for them to do so. This has been our experience as well. We've had more success having the pharmacy fax the doctors office to update the refill than by trying to hunt down the doctor ourselves. They respond better to them it appears.
MomWithOCDSon Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I agree with ptcgirl. Just call the pharmacy and request a refill; they, in turn, will contact the doctor. Just allow some extra time because it can take them a couple of days to get the approval. Good luck!
