Hi - both dd and ds are on clindamycin for strep treatment. Ds swabbed positive on butt, dd negative but flaring. It's 3 doses a day. I'm aware that the half life is short 2.15 hours or so.

I'm not waking anyone up but am dosing as early and late as possible. Should I be going to dd's school to maximise spacing or is that going overboard?

thanks...

Hi,

My ds,7, has been on Clinda for months (started on it with perianal strep but his returned whenever switched back to Augmentin-- he's immune def. too). He's homeschooled so it's easier for us, but we dose it about 7 hours apart. So say 7 am, 2 pm, and 9 pm. Depending what time your children leave for school, how long they're gone, and what time they go to bed, would it be possible to space it something like that without having to send it to school? I have no scientific basis to say you have wiggle room, but my docs weren't super hung up on the precision with this one-- and they have been with the timing of meds in the past so I trust they'd tell me if it had to really be exact.

Wish I had a more "evidence-based" answer for you-- I'm sure the "this is what we, in our totally untrained/unscientific way, are doing so you ought to be okay, too" reply isn't exactly what you were looking for ;)

I would love to know too. My sons take it and DS1 takes it at breakfast lunch and dinner. DS2 is in full day school and takes it around 715ish and then when he gets home at 3;30 and then around 630 with dinner. It doesn't sound like we are doing it right with him, but I am very reluctant to send the med to school. So far (Knock on wood) results have been good and there has been no strep here...

Hi fcxefcer, thanks

Yeh, my ds has had c-diff before. Joy <_<

He's taking florastor, pharmax probiotics, some culturelle in the mix, a live one with prebiotics that the kids love the taste of and as much kefir (milk and fruit water), lassi and konbucha drinks as I can get in him.

Thankfully he loves the lassi, kefir and kombucha drinks and has the other stuff without too much fuss. Clindamycin scares me to be honest but I want to really make sure the strep is gone. I hate the fact that you can get sick even weeks after the clindamycin but will just try to be super vigilant with the good bugs and not let it slide.....
