OK, so I had a routine physical a couple of weeks ago and just for the heck of it, threw in my ASO and Anti-DNase. The ASO came back elevated, which would indicate recent Strep infection. I had several "colds" in a row about 6-8 weeks apart, all very familiar, and mostly the same - slightly irritated throat turning to a stuffed up nose and them leaving the system fully after about 5 days. I have been getting these things since my son was born 5 years ago. In the same token, my son has had a really rough time w/PANDAS flares for the past couple of months. Things that make ya go "Hmmmm". Strangely, the Anti-DNase was within normal range...what do you all make of that??

When we first consulted with Dr B, Nov 2010, he ran certain bloodwork on the whole family including ASO and anti-DNAse B.

Neither dh nor I had been sick in recent memory. Both of us had elevated ASO, but not DNAse B. Both girls had elevated ASO and higher DNAse B and acted like it. I think they brought strep in the house and we reacted to it on a cellular level, but never got ill.

I don't know where I got this impression, but I've had it for 2 years now....that elevated anti-DNAse B is more indicative of pandas/pans than elevated ASO. Obviously some have no titer rise and that doesn't exclude pandas, but my girls' symptoms have always correlated to the height of the DNAse B titer. In fact, dd12 recently had a strep infection (asymptomatic) where the ASO was higher than the DNAse B and her behavioral symptoms were so mild I wasn't even sure it was anything until we had the blood tests, so that's interesting to me. I'd bet you if it had been the other way around, I would have had no doubt what was going on!!!!

My son usually has both ASO @ Anti-DNASE elevated when he has a flare, but I am not sure why I have higher ASO. Prior to having his T&A 8/2010, I got Strep x 2 from him although I had not had it in 30 years that I knew of, since I had my T&A at age 17. Rapid came up + w/no tonsils and my doc was amazed. My son reacts to people who have Strep around him, although he shows no signs of infection other than elevated titers (and PANDAS symptoms). I think he may have had his 1st Strep infection at 14 WEEKS. It was afterward that I started to get sick w/ this familiar respiratory "cold" that sometimes would last and last, producing a dry cough that went on and on sometimes for weeks, and a loss of voice. I am thinking that I may be a carrier and he is reacting to me?? How do you actually identify a carrier?

I need to get on the ball with this titer stuff. It's the one thing I really can't wrap my head around. My son did not show any ASO, but has DNase of 273 (off the top of my head, maybe I'm off a little). Does that indicate he does or recently did have strep? Sure would account for his behaviors the past few months!
