Dean1065 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I remember a thread a few weaks ago in which there was some discussion about purchasing rapid strep test kits over the internet. I was wondering if anyone had done so and if they had a recommendation as to which test to get?
Dedee Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I just re-ordered mine. I think with shipping it was around $40. That is for a box of 25. Here is the link. http://www.docsavings.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=D&Category_Code=rstrep2 Dedee
Dean1065 Posted April 2, 2012 Author Report Posted April 2, 2012 I guess if you are reordering it means you were satisfied with them?
Dedee Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Yes, they aren't hard to use, but I am a nurse so I am used to doing that sort of thing. It has very simple step by step instructions. Others may use a different brand. Our box lasted a while. This is only the second time I ordered. Dedee
fightingmom Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) This is going to sound really stupid, but could you swab inside the nose to check for strep with these? Edited April 2, 2012 by fightingmom
Dedee Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 You can but it won't tell you if they have strep in the throat. The nose swab might give you information about possible sinus strep. You can even swab their bottom if you want to check for peri-anal strep. (Sorry, don't mean to be gross). If you are checking for strep throat, you need to get back to the posterior portion of the tonsil and get both sides.

My son and I are at the doc for sinus infections several times a year. Seems they never clear up. Dr. B. is suspicious of strep in our sinuses. Our sinuses have never been swabbed, thought it might be interesting to check?
