karenm Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 we took my grandson to immunologist yesterday, trying to get diagnosis. after visit was over he said he was a"panda skeptic" and had never diagnosed anyone with pandas. i think if we are going to get a no on pandas that it should come from someone who believes in pandas. am i right???
fightingmom Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Yes, you are right. Find another doctor!
nicklemama Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 The only help I've gotten is from PANDAS experts. I've not had an appt w/ a skeptic but I got absolutely no help from any of the doctors we've seen, outside of Dr K and Dr T.
MomWithOCDSon Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Amen to that! Actually, I'd welcome a "yes" from a skeptic, but I've never heard of one. In which case "skeptic" is really just a more politically correct term for "naysayer." I'd settle for a "maybe, let's try a trial of antibiotics and see what, if any, effect they have." I was lucky enough to get that from our ped several years ago, despite her skepticism. But in my experience, most immunologists (Dr. B. an exception) and infectious disease "experts" (Dr. T. an exception) seem to feel it's their responsibility to "protect their turf" by pushing off anything with a mental/behavioral component to the psych department.
mkur Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 RUN - don't waste your time and money with the non-believers.

Hi! Just noticed that you have an older Pandas child. Would very much like to hear how your experience was as my dd was just diagnosed in January at 13. Going for IVIG with Dr. K this week. I would also love to know a immunologist who understands Pandas just in case we need to go that route. It would be great to hear of an older child that is doing well as I have only heard from parents with young kids. Any advice, thought or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Nancy
