3boysmom
Just saw a comercial for "My Strange Affliction"- new show on Saturday night. A show about people living with strange illnesses and such. The comercial just showed children with body movements and uncontrolable vocal noises. They did not say what was wrong and we will be flying home from CT and I will miss it. Does anyone know what this is that they will feature tomorrow? It was disturbing to see the comercial with the parent crying... I am curious what this is! Linda
Mayzoo
I will have to try to watch it on the net after kiddo goes to bed. It seems it is a 20/20 special (8 weeks long started on 3-3) on ABC at 9pm EST/8pm CST--probably different issue with each show. No indication yet what the subject is, but I am looking on the ABC site now.

Mayzoo
Okay, it is still a 20/20 special, just this years version. The other name was last years version apparently . "My Extreme Affliction Makes ABC #1 on Saturday for the 2nd Week Running" Same time frame I believe. This is the only episode information I have found so far, and I cannot research progeria right now, sorry. "Description: Children of hoarders; women who love cats; a former hair model has the condition alopecia; children with progeria." My link Okay, I made a minute to find this: "Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome ("Progeria", or "HGPS") is a rare, fatal genetic condition characterized by an appearance of accelerated aging in children. Its name is derived from the Greek and means "prematurely old." While there are different forms of Progeria*, the classic type is Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, which was named after the doctors who first described it in England; in 1886 by Dr. Jonathan Hutchinson and in 1897 by Dr. Hastings Gilford. PowPow
I think this is the episode that was posted about: extreme affliction 3/17 kids with tourettes--- hope to see it! Edited March 17, 2012 by PowPow
3boysmom
Thank you Mayzoo, but you posted about last week's show. This comercial looked like TS or ? I think it will be hard to watch as the children's issues look somewhat familure from the short comercial snippet. Might end up being another group of people to reach out to!! So much sadness PowPow- ji just came back on to edit that I checked out the link that you posted and that is the episode that I was looking for. It did say TS! Thank you both for helping. Maybe we will get home from IVIG trip on time to see it .....maybe it will be too emotional and raw right now..... Linda. 3boysmom
Just getting home, missed the show. Did any of the children present as PANDAS?
colleendonny
I watched. It's seems as if they could. A lot had OCD, complusions and rituals. And lots of tics. They attended a camp. I forget the name. Something with the word tic in it.
blakes_mom
I just watched a little bit of it but I find this extremely sad and frustating because a lot of these kids obviously have pandas. I did see a piece on here about a 13 year old girl with horrible tics,OCD. It showed her treating Dr who happens to be Dr. Mink a big critic of Pandas. He has been treating this poor girl for 4 years without improvement.
