Hi,

In Dec. my son started getting some emotional lability again and was often complaining feeling sick. He ended up with Myco P. Fearing the Lyme may have started to come back, we took him to Dr. J in January. He was retested and his results IgG results did come back positive based on IgeneX standards. This is the first time they were actually positive. The first time we had the testing done, it was indeterminate. The second time, it was negative.

The first time it was done (March 2011), he had been on antibiotics on and off for the two months prior (and was on Zithromax at the time of the draw). The second time (Jul 2011), he had been on Zithromax and Bactrim from March through the beginning of June. The draw was done mid July. This last time, he had been on Biaxin in mid Decemeber for 2 weeks (for the mycoP), but otherwise had not been on anything since June. I guess I am surprised to see IgGs that were positive this last time when the IgMs were never positive prior to that (at least not all of them).

Meanwhile, since we saw Dr. J. in January, we have not started any antibiotics. (WE had take him off Singulair and wanted to see if that had an effect on his mood). He is doing much better than he was in Dec and Jan. Dr. J. said to treat him if he was symptomatic. I go back and forth about what to do. Part of me thinks maybe it was in Cyst state in July and has now come out and it's just a matter of time before the !@#$ really hits the fan, so just treat it. Another part of me thinks that at the time the last draw was done, he was not doing as well and that perhaps the results would be different now.... and that I should hold off and see if things change for the worse.

Here are his results from the three different times. I tried to put it in table format to more easily see the trends, but was unsuccessful. So they are just listed.

Any thoughts, theories, recommendations?

Thanks,

Kara

You do a lot of Lyme tests!

I haven't heard of people actually using testing to see how their Lyme is progressing -

CD57 for adults, yes.

Your pattern of testing is hard to make sense of - some things I wondered:

Did you treat any co-infections?

I think if you are looking for a test for confirmation (and I get that, I really do)

You could maybe pull him off ALL antibiotics for 2-3 months, and then do the 'new' Lyme test, which sounds like a viable test.

The reason we tested again was we feared it had come back after treating it last time. He got sick in Dec and tested positive for Myco P. One of his strep titers was slightly elevated as well, which is not uncommon for him.

He really had been off abx for 6 months, then just on for two weeks to treat the Myco P. The Wester Blot draw was done almost 4 weeks after he completed that two week dose.

He was tested and treated for co-infections all three times. He was borderline positive for Bartonella in March 2011. Negative for all others. He was negative for Bartonella both the second and third times.

My big dilemma is "do I put him back on abx?" His symptoms are not crystal clear nor are they currently very extreme. I could argue other very logical reasons for them. Mostly, it's emotional lability (depression or anger). But that hasn't been bad the last 3 or 4 weeks. And he's 12, going through puberty...

He gets sore throats more often than other kids, but they haven't been that bad, either, this year. Every now and then, he'll complain of some odd body ache or feeling.

I looked closely at the results again and realized he is very close to being CDC positive. He has positives on three of their 5 required bands and IND on another 2. We are leaning toward treating.
