colleendonny Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I know there are lots of PANDAS parents here from MA. I'm wondering if anyone can reccomend a great person for CBT and/or ERP for my DD5. Preferably one who will take insurance. Thanks so much. Colleen
lmkmip67 Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 I would be interested, too. We are seeing someone right now, but I am not sure how good she really is. We have seen her for 5 sessions and about the only thing she has tried to teach my son is to talk back to the OCD. I know it is a slow process, but it just seems there should be more to it than talking back to the OCD. She seems a bit wishy washy.
LNN Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Try the OC Foundation's site http://www.ocfoundation.org/treatment_providers.aspx Preferably a therapist who's BTTI trained - that's the IOCDF's 3 day ERP training course.
colleendonny Posted February 17, 2012 Author Report Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks. Laura, I checked the site, thanks. I can't believe I live in the Boston area and there are only 2 that fit the criteria in a 50 mile radius! They both say they accept private insurance... I'm guessing that really means pay out of pocket...
LNN Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I think private insurance means Aetna, Cigna, Tufts etc.
colleendonny Posted February 17, 2012 Author Report Posted February 17, 2012 Both that I contacted called back. One isn't accepting new patients amnd the other is and she just happens to take only BCBS, which is what we have. The speaker is she is about 1 1/2 hours away, but its definitely worth a shot to me. I just want to help her with these thoughts that she has and let her know she is not alone. Someone other than me telling her that may convince her and help her feel better about it. I'm.still not sure how ERP works for intrusive thoughts... Maybe she would try CBT first?
NancyD Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Dr. Longpre in Newburyport does ERP and he takes BCBS.
colleendonny Posted February 18, 2012 Author Report Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks Nancy, I'm going to send you a PM. I have been meaning to do so for a while. Newburyport is over 2 hours away from us
