Cheers Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 As I have been going through the posts on this site the past few days, I have read several responses concerning Natural Calm. I take it myself and am wondering how much I could give to my daughter. I did order some Kids Calm Multi for her, but would like to try this in the meantime. She is about 50 lbs and 7 years old. Also, with the baths - how much Epsom salt do I put in in order to make a difference? And how many times a week is okay to do this? OH!! One more quick question...do you allow your child to play with hand held video games? Do they seem to make a difference? She has a DS and an iPod Touch that she plays with frequently. I just want to do what I can now while I wait for the next step. Thanks!!
beeskneesmommy Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I would like the answer to the Epsom Salts also, but as for video games - we disallow Wii or X-box et al, and sparingly allow Ipod videos because our son get extremely involved in them. I cannot imagine that it is good for him for prolonged periods of time to focus upon something that keeps him from typical daily interaction. i think that kids get deep into another place that can feel like reality to them and I discourage that. This being said, I feel that way about all kids playing all video games for any prolonged periods...
oivay Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Use a little more than 1/2 cup of epsom salts per bath. We use it for sprains, etc., but when my daughter had severe chorea, it did seem to help her feel better. I would never leave her alone in the bathroom though, as I was terrified that she'd shake and slide under. We never used natural calm....never heard of it. As far as the video games, when she was at her worst, she didn't have enough motor control to even hold a pencil, let alone use the controllers or a keyboard. She couldn't even use the TV remote. She does play some games now, but I try to limit them as if I don't, she'd be playing stuff like Mortal Combat etc. During the initial aftermath of each episode, I was ok with video games because it seemed to help with returning dexterity, and it gave her an avenue to connect socially with her friends. (When she was really bad, she didn't want anyone to see her unable to walk etc., and wouldn't see the kids who came over to see her.)
