MomWithOCDSon Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 So this popped up in my email inbox today. Neutrophils Decreased in OCD So, has anyone had their PANDAS kids neutrophil count taken, and if so, what was the outcome/result? Also, as I'm fuzzy on the various immune cell types and testing, are neutrophils something that is typically taken into account in a standard immune panel? Thanks!
hawks Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Nancy - This is interesting. I was just going over some of our DS15 blood work that he had done last fall when we got back from the clinic in St.Petes - Florida. Dr. M had us do some blood work and I think it was part of a standard immune panel. One of the things that he had tested as part of the work up was something called Absolute Neutrophils and his were low - 1088 with the range being 1800-8000. There is also another area labeled Neutrophils which was 34%. I was wondering what this was and why it was low.
hawks Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Just found some old discussion on this topic. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5783
LNN Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Neutrophils are measured as part of a standard CBC panel, along with basophils and eosinophils. We run CBCs at least every 4 months, sometimes more often, including AST/ALT for liver function. FWIW, neither of my kids has ever had out of range on any of the "phils".
NancyD Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Interesting, although a very small study. DD's neutrophil count in 2009/2010 was consistently low. Have to look at more recent test results.
