Kimberly
I have noticed my daughter's tics seem to be worse after swimming in our pool. I do not know if it is the chlorine or fatigue. I have been researching alternative pool sanitizers. There are so many out there that it is hard to know what to try. I would love your input on alternative pool cleaners. Thanks, Kimberly

Thanks, Kimberly We live in a community that has a pool but we had to stop using it. The reason was the chlorine. My son had no problems with going swimming at the beach providing that he took a nap afterwards but with the pool was another story. Currently we are putting in a salt sanitizer. There is still a by product of chlorine but much, much less. I forgot the number count but it was worth the extra money. We did look at ozone and other pools but the technology seems not to be there yet. Perhaps in a few more years. At least that was with the information we came across and with speaking with pool people who do whole communities and not individual homes so I knew I was not getting a sales pitch. Thanks, Kimberly i work on swimming pools, i recommend a "Mineral Springs" system, you can look that up it uses salt, NOT chlorine. It is pricey though... I would also look into having a "Nature 2 Cartrige" installed on your system. You can look that up as well, it is a natural water purifier that puts minerals in pool water and you dont have to use as much chlorine.
Giselle
Hi there, yes I believe it's the chlorine. Interesting fact is when we were thinking of going to one of the Pfeiffer Treatment Center's outreach clinics their questionaire specifically asked about chlorine. My son's tics definitely worsened after he started a swim team - we had to stop which was such a shame because at the time it was the only sport he truly loved and was a natural at (he's found baseball since happily). The only pool he is able to swim in is his best friend's and it has the salt system. Good luck, Giselle

Giselle
I know! Another case of their hypersensitivity - but just shows you how much yuck can get absorbed by the skin. And visa versa - hence our use of the magnesium cream on nights when a bath isn't possilbe. Whenever Hoyt is in the water he NEVER tics - it's either super soothing for him or there is enough stimulation all over his body that he just doesn't get a chance. Luckily we live in Southern California and are about 1/2 an hour from beaches and visit often (as well as that friend's pool). Giselle
