lmkmip67 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Ian's dose was way upped today and I am wondering if there is anything else I should look out for? He usually handles it pretty well. Maybe a slight headache, not much. And a slight upset tummy maybe after day 1. But that is usually it. They upped from 150 the second day to 350. So instead of 350 total he got 550. Thanks!
LaurenK Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Not sure about your question, but had you been doing high dose or low dose IVIG with Dr. B. I heard that only above 1.5 is good for autoimmmune disease?

I heard that only above 1.5 is good for autoimmmune disease? High dose, he just put it even higher this time. I guess he would have been at 3.5 before, if counting the whole two days? I get confused on the dosage amount, I haven't spent time researching it a lot.
LaurenK Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) I think the dosage is really really important because I read that low dose is pro-inflammatory. I thought the highest dosagewas 2g/kg. I thought that was what swedo recommended? Edited January 17, 2012 by LaurenK

I thought the highest dosagewas 2g/kg. I thought that was what swedo recommended? Hmm, not sure. The first day he has to get up to 200 and the second day up to 150, usually. But this time it was 200 and then 350. How that is measured, I am not sure. I was quite sure Dr. B does high dose, though.
lmkmip67 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 Hmm, now I am confused. I always watch the number we have to get do in any given day we are there. I wonder how that translates to 1.5 or 2.0. Hmmm....He was getting the typical Dr. B dose for an 8 year old boy, whatever that means...I never asked in g/kms.
JAG10 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 It's based on weight and split over 2 days. So 1.5 grams of IgG for every kg of your son's weight. Or 2 grams of IgG per kg of his weight. That is not each day; that is the total of the two days. I'm not sure what those other numbers are....rate of the drip probably. But he should be getting something like 35 grams one day and 40 grams the next. Something like that based on how much he actually weighs when you convert lbs to kg and then multiple by the dose (1.5 or 2.0) then divide by 2 for each days total grams. If you post his weight I'll tell you exactly.
lmkmip67 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 Ok, I think he is at 2.0 DH just got home and said he heard that. I never bothered to ask about the dosage or look at the bag. lol usually I am dealing with a very grumpy 8 year old during treatments so we just do our best to get through. His weight is 58 pounds.
