smartyjones Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 in looking at a few homeopathic remedies, their profiles mention high levels of copper. just made me think -- isn't there a zinc-copper link? if you are treating KPU you're dealing with a zinc deficiency, right? are you addressing copper as well? thanks.
LNN Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 When you treat KPU for any length of time, say after 4 mos, you need to test copper levels periodically. Zinc and copper are ying/yang the same way calcium/magnesium are. The high zinc supplement will eventually cause copper to drop too low and you end up needing to supplement both. DD had high copper levels prior to starting KPU treatment. As we increase her zinc, her copper is "naturally" chelating, causing bi-polarish rapid mood swings - mania, depression, anger, meanness, intense perfectionism - all in the span of a half hour. We backed off the zinc temporarily and the mood issues got much better. But we will eventually need to push through. A supplement or multi-vitamin that had high copper would not be a good thing for someone with KPU, especially early on.
