Hi - I poste dthis on the PANDAS forum but LLM thought it worth asking here in case i'm seeing a detox issue.

"Hi - I was just wondering if anyone has seen magnesium activating their PANDAS child?

Could it be a methylation thing? He is homozygous for the MTHFR C677T.

I only seem to recall good things being written re mag.

Thanks

Reading more baout it since original post, I'm wondering if LLm is right ad I'm seeing detox reaction due to the sulfate....

thanks for any ideas :)

Dr. Klinghardt does talk about Magnesuim in reference to Lyme, that it feeds spirochete and to stay away from oral form. It can also cause a 'herxheimer like' response with Lyme.... I think it could very well be a methylation issue as well.

We used to supplement with Calm 'Magnesuim' but switched to L-Tryptophan over a year ago with great success. If you are supplementing with Magnesium for mood, anxiety and sleep issues L-Tryptophan is a good alternative. L-Tryptophan is the following precursor: L-Tryptophan --> 5-Hydroxytryptophan 5-HTP --> Serotonin --> N-Acetyl-serotonin --> Melatonin.

We use Pure Formulas: 1000 m.g per day.

Yet Joe Burrascano in his Lyme Treatment Guidelines recommends magnesium as a supplement. I think you need to go with your gut on who to follow and base your decision on personal responses...there's just no clear answer on so much of this.

But DUT isn't using oral magnesium - just epsom salt baths. Can anyone else share reactions to baths or talk about what other detox stuff you use in baths or for skin detox? Maybe she could do a trial of something else to see if she gets a similar "detox" response, to see if it's detox and not the epsom salts specifically...

Hi- I wasn't aware you were referring to an Epsom salt bath-

if that is the case, yes, this is a detox method.

Most of the time it calms- sleepy-

However, if starting off with them, can feel ill in the beginning -

By the way, just my own experience with Epsom salt baths, as a person with junky stuff in the body-

I started Epsom salt baths for the first time 4 months ago-

almost passed out on the first one, lasted about 7 minutes.

Now, I still do not like this bath, in fact the only thing that keeps me in the tub for the full

20 minutes is the fact that I've used 2 cups of high grade Epsom salts, and 1 cup dead sea salts

$$$

Sometimes I am spent after it, and need to lay down for a bit. Mine are very warm temp, cause sweating, drink water throughout.

So yeah, they can cause an effect, IMO.

But, good way for some detox.

I wasn't aware you were referring to Epsom salt baths either.... thanks for the clarification LLM. One of our Dr's recommends supplementing with oral Magnesium and one does not. Every LLMDs take on Magnesium is slightly different and if its a notable response, I agree best to use your instincts.

Perhaps the response is similar to some children's reaction to chlorinated pools.... that can be an indication of KPU/detox issue.

S & S: I also feel very sluggish after epsom salt bath and often a need to lay down. I always thought my response was due to temp intolerance but perhaps its the detox aspect.
