Bill Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Son received his 3rd IVIG at Dr. B.'s last week. Will update on son's progress in a couple of weeks. Was unable to get a room at the DoubleTree - completely booked. After much searching, was able to get a room at the Amsterdam Hotel in Stamford. A little bit farther away but easier to get back and forth in my opinion. I looked back at old receipts, staying at the DoubleTree under the "We Care" program cost me $94/night after all taxes/fees added. Staying at the Amsterdam cost me $125/night (total). $30/night more but that included a (limited) breakfast and refrigerator in the room. No pool though. Assortment of dining close by. Checked the BedBug registry - no reports. Hotel is small, but, our room was fine - just as big as the DoubleTree, very clean, and with the exception of guests that let their doors slam - quiet as well. Well - actually I could hear the interstate but kept the fan on to drown it out. Not sure if there were guests in the rooms around us though - seemed not to be full. Thought I would post as most hotels in the area are closer to or over $200/night before all the taxes. 3boysmom Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Hey, we were there last week for our 3rd IVIG with Dr B! Flew in late Sun. Night (iVIG on Mon & Tues.). Stayed 3 nights at the Double Tree & flew home Wed. Just wanted to mention that you can walk to the Cosco next door and buy a huge pizza for $10. and it is good. You don't need to be a member...go into Cosco and ask for a visitor's pass & they let you buy from the food counter and the pharmacy without membership. We got it "to go". Also if you get a room at The Double Tree without a refrigorator, ask and they will bring you one to your room. We went by Shop Rite and put juice and breakfast items in it. Not just to save money, but also for convenience and because it isn't always that easy getting out with your child when they are going through this. Hope this helps! lmkmip67 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 I have done Priceline in the past as well, or Hotwire, to get deals as decent as the Doubletree. We prefer the Doubletree as my son LOVES to swim, so I just make my reservation way ahead of time. Also, once we took the executive floor at the Doubletree for around $130, and breakfast was included with that. We do Dunkin or cereal and juice in the room otherwise. I think you can get a microwave as well if you want. I would ask.
Bill Posted November 23, 2011 Author Report Posted November 23, 2011 I think you can get a microwave as well if you want. I would ask. Ah, my memory is so poor these days...Amsterdam includes a small microwave as well plus coffee pot, iron, etc.
T_Mom Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Hi all you parents with kids doing multiple IVIGs w/ Dr B... Is he prescribing multiple IVIGs as a matter of "typical" protocol -- is that correct? Did he indicate how many to expect at the start? -- or is the second one, third, etc. determined by symptom reoccurence?? My daughter had IVIG in May w/ a different doctor, and I am just wondering--thanks.
3boysmom Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 He said that if we had gotten help right away and not been sent down the wrong path for so long, that 1 IVIG may have been all our ds would need. He said that in his experience, kids with the level of illness and the length of time we had seen issues, that our ds would probably need at least 3. So we did our 3 and with each IVIG we saw issues decreasing. Now we wait and see, but we are scheduled for #4 in Jan just in case, but may not need it. Each child is different and it depends on what is going on.

My daughter had IVIG in May w/ a different doctor, and I am just wondering--thanks. Dr. B. stated that my son would need 3-4 IVIGs. We just finished #3 and already scheduled for #4 in January. My son is to have his total IGg tested right before #4. He is basing the need for the first 4 on symptom resolution. My son has a ways to go..... My son has been diagnosed PANDAS/LYME. It took us 5 years to get that diagnosis. In hindsight, 8 years from the first symptoms (3 for us to get a clue). For comparison, my son has significant neurological symptoms (dystonia, tics) in addition to OCD and behavioral. Dilated pupils and inability to perform math are almost 100% resolved at this point. Happy Thanksgiving, bill
lmkmip67 Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 I think he usually suggests every 8 weeks. The number depends on your particular child. We are heading into our 5th in January.
T_Mom Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Thanks All-- I appreciate the info. thank you.
