Recently we had everyone in our family checked for strep to see if we have a carrier in our house that may be affecting our PANDAS son's ability to heal. No carrier for strep but one sibling has some form of staph in his nose. Could this be contributing to our PANDA's sons symptoms? Our ped is faxing the results to Dr. Murphy who suggested we check for a strep carrier. Anyone have experience with this?

Does he have symptoms of staph infection? Could be a carrier. We all carry these bugs, but some nasal carriage is regular staph aureus, some is mrsa. If he's just carrying, the may suggest putting mupirocin/bactroban in his nostrils. And they may suggest washing with something that contains salicylic acid or hibiclens. Like other colonizers-- groin and armpits are hot spots in addition to the nares.

One thing I suggest, esp if it's mrsa staph-- super vigilance about hand washing, not touching anything after touching his nose. And really cleaning surfaces. Some essential oils are really good against MRSA-- tea tree, lemongrass.

Will be interested to know what you hear from Dr M, if you don't mind sharing.

He has actually been out of school this week for what I think has been a cold/flu bug. I don't know what the symptoms would be for a staph infection in his nose. I don't think it is mrsa because our ped probably would have mentioned that. He just said that he was going to fax the results to Dr. M. I will post what i find out from dr M. Thank you for the tips and suggestions.
