mtmom Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 My son, 7, received his IVIG 19 days ago. He has been attending school. Today at school they sent home his third incident report. He has been agressive by hitting and attempting to bite his teachers. The staff has been using some sort of hold to block his hits. When this first happened I held him from school saying that we should wait until it passes. The school wanted him to come back. So he did and the last few days he has done the above behaviors again. Of course these are new behaviors for him never displayed before the aftermath from the IVIG, which everyone says is suppose to go away. So my question is should I keep sending him to school? What would you do?
beeskneesmommy Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 I had heard that it is a good idea to keep your kiddo isolated from school and other "germy" places for several weeks post IVig. Could he had been infected or exposed to Strep at school, causing this exacerbation? Personally, I would keep him at home and give him a few weeks to slow down, destress and adjust...
Iowadawn Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Trust me, before something very UN-good happens, keep him home. He is not operating on all cylinders, learning is NOT going to take place to any degree. Peers may see this and then that adds a new dimension. It is MUCH better in the long run to keep him home than risk this type of behavior and the serious problems that can occur. A person wouldn't send a kid if another organ (you pick) was causing serious symptoms. My vote from our experience is KEEP HIM HOME. And we have had nothing but very cooperative, bend-over backwards school personnel. My been-there opinion. Dawn
