ArtLover Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 (edited) Hello, I am so excited that I found this discussion board! I am very interested in the IVIG treatments and am searching for doctors who treat adults and adolescence with this protocol. I have trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder) and aware of most treatments for it but am interested in IVIG. My son has extreme social anxiety, motor tics, OCD which I believe to be associated, biologically speaking, with hair pulling. I do not know if he has PANDAS and at this point and not interested in a diagnosis, just treatment for his symptoms hopefully through IVIG protocol also. Could someone tell me where I can get information on IVIG doctors in my area -- I am willing to travel : ) and live in the northern Indianapolis area. Thank you very much. JAG10 Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Artlover, I'm sure you know the drill....everyone is different in their response to XYZ treatment. That being said, I thought I'd share. My dd11 didn't have trichotillomania, but she did pick at her skin to the point of ulceration and her CBT doc at U of Penn said it was very similar to trich and she tried many of the same techniques which made ZERO difference. My girl, 9 at the time, was too sick cognitively to take advantage of any of that CBT. She had ivig in May 2010 and the skin picking completely stopped. It was the most noticeable, immediate and dramatic improvement. Other pandas symptoms have taken longer and more ivig's to resolve. She saw Dr Kovacevic in Chicago. You may not be interested in diagnosis, but you'll probably need it to get a doc to treat. Ivig is not that easy to come by.
T_Mom Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hi Artlover, At the top of the PANDAS forum page is a "Helpful Topics" thread...click on it and in there is a thread dedicated to parents listing the doctors that they have seen who have helped with PANDAS. There are only a few who may be actively willing to treat (if necessary) with IVIG after antibiotics, and possibly steroids... Definitely worth trying (in my opinion.) Trich and skin picking have been linked w/ PANDAS as possible symptoms, ask, ask, ask...Please do come back and let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out! All the best to you--
