My possible PANDAS son tested positive for strep throat today, what to

My almost 6 year old son tested positive via rapid strep test today. His psychologist and I think he has PANDAS since feb. We cant get a md to dx him with it.

 

But he has been pretty well lately no tics etc.

 

But I am wondering what I should expect or anything else I should be doing?

 

He is going on keflex for I think 10 days.

Well if he is PANDAS, it is good that you have documentation of the strep infection. You should just observe his behavior and document the onset of any behavior changes or tics. It is great that you already have antibiotics. If he has a flare of behavior changes, you may need antibiotics for longer than the ten days. As prevenion, you could start motrin. Although, as bad as you hate to do it, if you are looking for the PANDAS diagnosis you need to get his true reaction to the strep and let his physician see the results. I would start the antibiotics immediately though. You may not see changes for up to two weeks after the infection. I think others have even seen it longer out. Ours was always within the week. WOW Bulldog, I am in the same boat as you. My dd6 came home from school yesterday with a sore throat and extremely thirsty. I did a rapid and it too was positive. I had her on antibiotics within the hour. She was showing no sign of any behavior issues either. This was the first sore throat she has ever had with strep. She is usually asymptomatic to strep, so I will take that as a good sign.

I have been giving her Olive Leaf 3 x a day for 7 months, so maybe that is doing something for her. I don't really know what to think. I am just praying that things remain calm.
