MARIALU Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 Hi My son has been taking azithro by near 5 months with ups and down; we have found his ASTO titers going down. He has always had lips cracked;even when we treated with vitaminB complex by years, this problem was always recurrent. Now we are treating vitamin D3 defficiency plus PANDAS/PITAND with mito support. I have noticed that with a Vitamin Complex- not more than RDI - his lips are healed. I wonder Have any of you experienced chronic cracked lips? they of course are worse in winter, but also in summer, sometimes as cheilitis- corners of the lips- but also with "descamation" of the skin of the lips-. Sometimes I ahve also seen descamation in hands and feet- that I recognize now as part of the post strep problems because with azitrho that particular problem is gone. Now I have two quesitons 1) Is it possible that azithro may trigger some particular vitamin Defficiency and therefore it is important to supplement a multi? 2) Is it possible that the cracked chronic lips is the symptom of a combination of problems? Thank you in advance
nicklemama Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 The horrible cracked and chapped lips in my DS was due to an ocd of wiping and licking his lips. Stopped after abx was started.
trggirl Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 Cracked lips can be a sign of B2 deficiency. We had an experience with B2 that I can tell you about. My daughter had vitamin and mineral testing and she came back low on B2. We started it and by day 2-3, my daughter's tics had completely stopped. The B2 also seemed to calm her. Eventually my daughter developed some type of allergic reaction to the B2 so we stopped it but I remain convinced that B2 or flavins are a piece of the puzzle in our case. So, it might be worth your time to get the vitamins and minerals checked. Also, my daughter did not have cracked lips.
MARIALU Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Thank you very much for your answers. We have tried B2 and also mito without sucess. He improves a bit and remain in a cycle. I think that perhaps is chronic strep?? Since azitro his knee is much better- he had cycles of knee pain with viral or bacterial infecitons-, but a recent strep infection provoked a bit regression in handwriting and math skills-and very bad cracked lips!
Kayanne Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 When my daughter's corners of her mouth get cracked, I assume it is mild thrush. She mostly had it when she took azith 2 years ago. I buy plain, unsweetened yogurt and after she brushes her teeth at night she swishes that around her mouth, and we put some around her lips too. She then goes to bed without rinsing it. I've had the same thing happen to me when I was on azith, and the yogurt did the trick for me too. I do want to add that some antibiotics can deplete vitamins, so IMHO, it is a good idea to supplement with a multi-vitamin anyway
MARIALU Posted August 13, 2011 Author Report Posted August 13, 2011 Hi My son´s lips are better, but we have more rigidity and inflexibility with some obsessions- and at school he tantrumed because of he wanted to finish an exercise that it was very difficult Is it possible that in the process there may be ups and downs- especially on a multi?
trggirl Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 We had that effect with B12. I have always tried vitamins one at a time and in our case, each vitamin gave a different effect.
