Hi. Just got back a labcorp. Western Blot. All the IgG were absent.

All the IgM were absent (including P41 on both)

HOWEVER,

IgM P23 Ab is

Present Abnormal.

This is pretty significant, yes? Since this is specific to outer protein of Lyme.

We also had a Bartonella antibody test, all were negative.

I did this testing on my own. Our treating Dr. is a well known smart DAN! Per last conversation, he wants to pull viral titers (EBV, Herpes titers, and the NKcells) sending over a prescription for all this blood work-

the IgM P23 Ab says it may be related to EBV.

Give it to me: I should go forward with Igenex, because this IgM P23 present screams lyme?

*sigh* I think my head is going to explode. This poor child has so much going on.

My DS9 was completely negative on standard CDC WB - including 41, both IgG and IgM

On Igenex, he was positive on 31, 34 and 39, some on IgM and some IgG

So only you can decide on whether Igenex is the next step, but I can tell you that you get different information/bands from Igenex than you do from Labcorp. But I suppose you already knew that.

Under Helpful Threads, there are a few articles that talk about what each band can indicate.

If you're trying to rationalize spending the money on Igenex, I can tell you that after we submitted our claim, insurance reimbursed us about 60% - and if you test more than one family member at the same time, they give you a 15% discount. So we were out of pocket for about the cost of a big bottle of supplements. And I know you know all about that! ;)

We were also 'almost' completely negative via Igenex - band 41 positive only. We did not discover Lyme until we did DNA matching via the urine. Doing DNA or antigen matching via provocation side steps any issue of 'cross reactivity for specific bands' to Lyme and if infection is active or not. I believe the test was fairly inexpensive comparatively and a portion of the cost was covered by our insurance. Offered via Igenex also. I know your DD is not Autistic but I believe similar issues apply 'dysfunctional immune response'.. and possibly low antibody response.

In our situation, we loaded my older DS up on antibiotics to shed die off into urine. Lyme loves the bladder. We collected urine on days 3, 5, 7 and then sent samples back to Igenex. He was positive. Since then we've confirmed co-infections and viruses were also presenting issues. XMRV and Coxsackies are huge in our family.

Before you get yourself or your child tested you must consider the following..

1. Testing is not perfect and demands an immune response to get a result. Since the immune systems of children with autism are typically dysfunctional you must do a PROVOCATION or treatment trial prior to testing to optimize your results.

2. When a provocation is done prior to testing, clinicians are reporting numbers as high as 73% of their autism practice testing positive for Lyme disease. So if you have previously tested without provocation, it is not conclusive. 20-30% of autistic children test positive without provocation and 73% with provocation.

Here is some information taken from Dr. Jones website regarding band 23:

23-25 outer surface protein C (OspC), specific for Bb. Can be an early band.
