ziva Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 All of my kids LOVE yogurt. I can't seem to find any that don't contain the S.Thermophilus in it. I have even called Yoplait because it doesn't have it listed on the label so I thought maybe that brand was clear, and they said ALL of their yogurts have it in there. Someone I spoke to at the grocery store said it was ALL commercially prepared cheeses and yogurts I am not sure if it's a trigger for my kids, but we are in a rough spot again, and I just can't take any chances. Thanks!
SSS Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Nope, I have not been able to find ANY (and my dd6 reacts to strep strain) However, I am using Lifeway organic (some are not organic) lowfat Kefir cultured milk smoothie- very tasty! and has probiotics without the strep strain.
SSS Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 By the way, went to the Lifeway website, and under kefirs, it does say 12 of the strains they use, that one of them is the strep. However, on the bottles I buy, there are 10 strains listed, NONE of them the strep strain. Just called the company, and they confirmed that the bottle is accurate, not listing the strep strain, because it is not in this particular product.
AmySLP Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Can someone explain this to me? I know this has been on the forum before, but thought that it was not something to worry about. I've been using Stoney Field and see every flavor I have has it in!
dcmom Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 My kids do not react to the strep strain in yogurt. My younger daughter pretty much eats one yogurt every day. She did this prior to and since pandas onset. She has done this through her 1.5 year remission, and during exacerbation. Just no reaction, thank goodness.
JJMom39 Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 The integrative ped who dx'ed my son told me to not let him have yogurt b/c of strep therm being in commercial yogurts. She told me many kids with PANDAS do react to it. I have not let him eat yogurt since he was dx'ed so I can't say for sure if he reacts to it or not. It seems like some kids do and some don't. I have been giving him Good Belly, which is a juice-based probiotic drink. It has the strain l. plantarum in it. I don't give it to him every day b/c I don't like for him to have a lot of juice, but it's the only thing I have found that he will drink that has a probiotic that is not strep therm. It's too bad b/c he loves yogurt.
msimon3 Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 The Swiss yogurt called Emmi. FYI, the folks at Emmi say it does indeed contain S. Thermophilus. I emailed them and they replied: Hello Mike, Below are the types of bacteria I was told are used in our Emmi Yogurt varieties. I do hope these are varieties that you are ok to have so you can enjoy the product! Have you tried the new Green Apple? It's truly unique and delicious! Thank you for your interest in our product! * Streptococcus Thermophilus, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus & Lactobacillus Acidophilus. * (name removed) _______________________ Emmi Roth USA, Inc. 657 Second Street Monroe, WI 53566 (name and contact info removed) http://www.emmirothusa.com
